Here's everything about staying in and around Stevenson, from the lodging in town to the nearby places you can visit from it: hotels near Carson, WA, hotels near North Bonneville, and where to stay near Home Valley.

Stevenson sits on the Columbia River beneath the cliffs of the Gorge, about an hour from Portland. It's a walkable small town of riverfront paths, cafés, and pubs. Its five places to stay range from a 1909 hotel reborn as a 12-room boutique stay to a lodge resort, riverside cabins with hot tubs, design-led A-frames, and a budget inn. Each is compared below using the same details, followed by two places just outside town.

Quick picks

  • Best for couples: The Return Artbliss Hotel. Quiet rear A-frames have private soaking tubs and gas fireplaces, steps from downtown dinner.

  • Best for families: Skamania Lodge. It has a heated indoor pool, on-site trails and activities, and family-sized suites.

  • Best for dogs: Wilder & Pine Riverside Cabins. Every cabin is pet friendly, and the property sits right on the river.

  • Best for budget: Capital O Stevenson Inn Riverside. It has the simplest rooms in town, with free parking and a 24-hour front desk.

  • Best for history: Hotel Stevenson. It's a restored 1909 hotel with a café that turns into a wine bar at night.

1. Hotel Stevenson

  • Actual town: Stevenson, 77 SW Russell Ave, downtown
  • Walkability: in the downtown core, near the river, shops, and restaurants
  • Verified amenities: café serving signature dishes, which becomes a wine bar in the evening; vintage rooms with modern comforts; gift certificates and seasonal specials
  • Best for: couples, history lovers, and travelers who want to walk everyehre
  • Official site: hotelstevenson.com

Hotel Stevenson is the closest thing the town has toa classic small-town hotel. The building opened in 1909 as the Colonial Hotel and housed various businesses over the decades, including a traditional hotel and Airbnb rooms. In 2020, it underwent what the owners call an extravagant transformation to restore its original purpose, and it reopened in March 2022 as an upscale boutique hotel.

The result mixes modern architecture with historic details. There are twelve rooms, each, in the hotel's words, "uniquely embellished with character and rich color." The style is vintage with modern comforts, so expect personality rather than a uniform chain room.

The café is the social heart. It serves signature dishes during the day and turns into a wine bar in the evening, so you can end a hiking or windsurfing day without getting back in the car. Plan the day with our guide to the
best hiking trails in Stevenson.

The location is the other selling point. You can walk to the riverfront and Stevenson Landing, the pier the hotel recommends for river views, and to galleries, shops, pubs, and restaurants. The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum is a short drive away. For more ideas, see things to do in Stevenson.

Trade-offs

With only 12 rooms, it books up on summer weekends. The website doesn't list room types, pet rules, or accessibility details, so call or text the hotel before booking if any of those matter. Being downtown means some street life, which suits people who want to be in the middle of things. If your dates are flexible, check the best time of year to visit Stevenson.

Booking

You can book online or by phone or text at 509-219-5009. The site's "check availability" button shows open dates. Specials and policies are posted on the site.

Who it suits

Couples and solo travelers who want character, a glass of wine downstairs, and a walkable base. It's a good pick if you'd rather have a boutique hotel than a big resort or a cabin. For dinner ideas, see the best restaurants in Stevenson.

2. Skamania Lodge

  • Actual town: Stevenson, 1131 SW Skamania Lodge Way, on the west side of town
  • Walkability: on its own 175-acre property; you'll drive to downtown
  • Type: full-service lodge resort with treehouses, cabins, a villa, and seasonal glamping
  • Verified amenities: Waterleaf Spa, heated indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs (outdoor 18+ after 6 PM), saunas, fitness center, three on-property trails, ziplining, aerial park, axe throwing, Little Eagle putting course, and the Cascade Dining Room, River Rock Lounge, and seasonal Backyard Grill
  • Best for: families, groups, weddings, and anyone who wants activities on site
  • Official site: skamania.com

Skamania Lodge is the biggest stay in town, and the one most people picture. It opened in 1993 and has expanded since. The main lodge has Forest View rooms, Riverview rooms (some with fireplaces), and top-floor Windows on the Gorge rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass.

If you want a lodge suite, there are three. The Gorge Suite has a living room, gas fireplace, and patio lookingout over the Columbia River. The Woodland Suite looks out on old-growth forest and suits families. The Hood River Suite is about 1,100 square feet on the top floor, with panoramic windows.

Outside the lodge, Treehouse Village adds treehouses, cabins with kitchens and patio fire pits, a villa, and glamping tents with soaking tubs and heated mattresses, open April through October. Activities fill the days, from the spa to the zipline. The Gorge 9 short course is closed until May 8, 2027. For a full rundown, see things to do at Skamania Lodge.

Fees

A resort amenities fee of 18% of the lodge room rate is charged per night, so factor it into the price you compare.

Pets

Up to two pets are allowed in designated main-floor pet rooms for a $75 fee, booked by phone. They aren't allowed in fireplace rooms, suites, treehouses, the villa, cabins, or glamping

Trade-offs

The cabins and glamping tents sit near the rail line, and the lodge provides white-noise machines and earplugs. It's a big, busy property, so it's less intimate than smaller stays.

Who it suits

Families who want a pool, groups and event guests, and travelers who'd rather not plan every activity themselves. For more ideas, see family activities in Stevenson.

3. Wilder & Pine Riverside Cabins

  • Actual town: Stevenson, 200 SW Cascade Ave, on the bank of the Columbia
  • Walkability: walk to restaurants, breweries, and the riverfront trail
  • Type: ten riverfront cabins sleeping 1 to 7, plus a lounge
  • Verified amenities: kitchenettes, gas fireplaces, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, river-facing decks, private or shared outdoor hot tubs in most cabins, complimentary bikes, a nearby swimming beach, and a guest lounge open 9 AM to 8 PM
  • Best for: couples, families, groups, and dog owners
  • Official site: wilderandpine.com

Wilder & Pine is the riverside cabin option in town. The property sits right on the water, and the owners say it's about 45 minutes from Portland. Cabins have kitchenettes, gas fireplaces, private bathrooms, and decks facing the river. The outdoor soaking tubs are the most popular feature.

The ten cabins vary a lot, so read the details. The Spruce sleeps seven and has a private hot tub and deck. The Alder has its own private hot tub too. The Juniper and Oak share a tub, as do the Cedar and Aspen. The Fir and Birch are upstairs units for four without hot tub access. The Maple is a large king suite, and the Tree House is a cozy king studio for two.

All cabins are pet friendly, with a fee. Check-in is private and contactless: door codes arrive before you do, and the management team is available by phone or text. Groups can book a property buyout. For dinner with your dog, see
pet-friendly restaurants in Stevenson.

Offer

The Cabin Fever special takes 30% off one night when you stay three consecutive nights, with code CABINFEVER. It's valid on new bookings for stays from November 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.

Trade-offs

The property warns of a whistle-free railroad crossing a few hundred feet away. Most guests aren't bothered, but light sleepers should know. If a hot tub matters, check that your cabin has one, and whether it's shared.

Route

It's on Cascade Avenue near the riverfront, so you can walk to dinner and drive Highway 14 east or west for day trips.

Who it suits

Dog owners, couples who want a soak on the river, and groups that want several cabins together. Couples can plan the rest of the trip with our romantic weekend in Stevenson itinerary.

4. The Return Artbliss Hotel

  • Actual town: Stevenson, 37 NW 2nd St, downtown
  • Walkability: steps from downtown cafés, restaurants, and shops
  • Type: boutique hotel of A-frame cabins, sold as collections
  • Verified amenities: up to four guests per cabin with two queen beds, gas fireplaces, private soaking tubs in the rear cabins, front cabins with mountain and Columbia River views, decks, and a full buyout for 16
  • Best for: couples, small groups of up to four, and travelers with one dog
  • Official site: artblisshotel.com (linked below)

The Return Artbliss Hotel is a small collection of A-frame cabins in downtown Stevenson. The cabins are built low into the ridge, framed by old-growth fir and finished in warm, tactile materials. They're set up for morning coffee on the deck and a fire at night.

You book a collection, and a cabin within it is assigned based on availability. The Mountain View Collection (Return to Sky and Return to River) has the front-row
mountain-view cabins downtown, with the best views and easy walking. The Private Soaking Tub Collection (Return to Stone and Return to Evergreen) has quieter rear cabins with private soaking tubs in Stevenson.

Every cabin sleeps up to four in two queens and has a gas fireplace. Collections start at $150 a night, with 10% off three or more nights and 15% off seven or more. Groups can book the
full-property buyout for groups, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms sleeping 16.

Pets

Well-behaved adult dogs are welcome in dog-friendly cabins for $50 per pet, with one dog up to 50 lb. The property is non-smoking.

Trade-offs

You can't pick an exact cabin within a collection, so book early for the widest choice. There's no on-site restaurant, pool, or spa, though downtown dining is a short walk away. For a public soak, see hot springs near Stevenson. Larger dogs or two dogs won't fit the pet policy.

Remote work

The FAQ notes that some guests choose the property for remote-work stays because the setting is quiet and nature-oriented. Each cabin's gas fireplace also makes the fireplace cabins a cozy spot to work through a cool evening.

Who it suits

Couples and groups of four who want a design-led cabin and the town on foot, and travelers who'd rather soak in a private tub than share a resort pool. To compare this collection with other Columbia River Gorge cabins, browse the A-frames on our cabins page.

5. Capital O Stevenson Inn Riverside

  • Actual town: Stevenson, 40 NE 2nd St, downtown
  • Walkability: central, near the river and downtown
  • Type: two-floor economy inn (OYO brand; formerly a Rodeway Inn and Econo Lodge)
  • Verified amenities: free parking, air conditioning, TV, non-smoking rooms, 24-hour front desk, and a vending machine. Room types include full, queen, king, and two-queen roomsaccessible king and two-queen rooms, and a king with a jetted tub.
  • Best for: budget and last-minute travelers
  • Official site: OYO property page

This is the budget option in town. It's a simple two-floor motel-style inn on NE 2nd Street, within easy reach of the river and downtown. Online travel listings put it at about 30 rooms. It's the most practical choice when the other stays are full, or you just need a bed for a night.

Rooms are basic and non-smoking, about 150 square feet each according to OYO's listing, with air conditioning and a TV. The range covers full, queen, king, and two-queen layouts, including accessible rooms, and one king room type has a jetted tub. Parking is free, and the front desk is staffed 24 hours. Online travel listings also mention laundry, a lobby fireplace and coffee, and paid RV or bus parking.

Policies

Check-in is at 2 PM and check-out at 11 AM. Pets are allowed for $25 per pet per night. Online travel listings give a minimum check-in age of 21.

Trade-offs

Reviews are mixed. OYO's own page showed a 2.1 rating from 18 reviews, and one recent reviewer praised the location but said the room needed remodeling. Reviews on Expedia and Hotels.com mention road and train noise. The branding has changed in recent years, and Choice Hotels still lists a Rodeway Inn at the same address, so check which brand you're booking through.

Who it suits

Road-trippers, last-minute bookers, and anyone who wants the cheapest room near downtown. Travelers bringing a pet on a budget may also find the pet fee manageable.
